12 Apr Kaanapali Beach Resort Hosts 7th Annual Wa`a Kiakahi 2011
Kaanapali, Maui, HI – Kaanapali Beach Resort is hosting the seventh annual Wa‘a Kiakahi event within the resort from Friday, June 10 – Sunday, June 12, 2011.
Open to the public, Wa‘a Kiakahi perpetuates the ancient sport and culture of Hawaiian canoe sailing. The schedule of activities includes:
Friday, June 10, 4 pm
Traditional Hawaiian welcome for the 10 participating crews of the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association at Kaanapali Beach in front of The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach.
Saturday, June 11, 10 am – 4 pm
Complimentary Hawaiian sailing canoe rides. Registration for canoe rides take place on the beach fronting The Whaler on Ka‘anapali Beach – look for the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association tent.
Crew members will be on hand throughout the day. The public is welcome to meet the crews and learn more about this ancient form of Hawaiian canoe sailing.
Sunday, June 12, 8 am
Traditional Hawaiian farewell ceremony for the crews before the teams race from Ka‘anapali to Moloka‘i.
