30 May Hyatt Regency Maui takes home ‘Aipono Awards
Japengo at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa received top honors at this year’s ‘Aipono Maui Restaurant Awards, taking home Gold for Best Asian Cuisine, Gold for Best Pacific Rim Cuisine and Silver for Best Sushi. Japengo also received an honorable mention for Most Romantic Setting.
Additionally, Hyatt Regency Maui’s onsite Drums of the Pacific Lu‘au was honored with Silver for Best Lu‘au, for its exotic flavors of native Hawaiian cuisine, traditional imu oven, and the unveiling of the kalua pua‘a. Known as the most exciting lu‘au in Maui, the authentic revue also takes the audience on a journey through the islands of Polynesia, including the thrilling three-man Samoan fire knife dance finale! Sponsored by Maui No Ka ‘Oi Magazine, the ‘Aipono Restaurant Awards have a strong local following and annually recognize the best of Maui’s food, wine and hospitality industries.

Japengo is a veteran of the ‘Aipono Awards, receiving recognition for Best Sushi for the fourth year in a row. In celebration of its award-winning sushi, locals and visitors are invited to experience International Sushi Day on June 18, where Japengo will celebrate by offering half-priced Blackened Ahi Rolls prepared by Sushi Chef Jin Hosono.
Japengo continues to provide unique dining experiences for locals and visitors through its ongoing Maui Tastemakers Series which features new flavors, partners and even more dining experiences than previous years. New this year, due to its popularity, Japengo offers a Maui Tastemakers menu each Friday every other month available to every guest dining in. This May, Japengo is partnering with Ocean Vodka, a third time Maui Tastemakers favorite. Simpli-Fresh Produce will team up with Japengo in July and offer a surprise menu based on the produce that is available to Japengo chefs. July’s Maui Tastemakers menu will be paired with cocktails featuring Maui Shrub Farm, a handcrafted drinking vinegar with unique tropical flavors. MauiWine joins Japengo in September and November partners will be announced in the coming weeks.
