Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course Named Among Golfweek’s “Best Courses You Can Play” in Hawaii

The picturesque Royal Ka’anapali Course, managed by Billy Casper Golf, was named among Hawaii’s top layouts on Golfweek magazine’s recently-released 2015 “Best Courses You Can Play” state-by-state list.

Preparing to host simultaneous men’s and women’s Regional and Sectional U.S. Open Qualifying Tournaments on May 9, the perennial Maui favorite was voted No. 15 in all of Hawaii.  Built on 300 acres of land once home to Hawaiian royalty, the Royal Ka’anapali Course presents pristine conditions, a fun yet challenging layout and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and West Maui Mountains.

The state-by-state rankings – tallied by hundreds of Golfweek raters nationwide – takes into account the overall strength of routing, feature shaping, natural settings, greens, the variety and remarkable nature of holes, conditioning and maintenance, landscape management and other criteria.

“We are honored to again be in the winner’s circle,” says Ed Kageyama, PGA General Manager of Royal Ka’anapali Golf Courses.  “Our team does an amazing job day in and day out conditioning our courses and creating memorable experiences for locals and visitors.”

Opened in 1962 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the par-71, 6,700-yard Royal Ka’anapali Course features wide fairways and undulating greens which make it distinctive and demanding.  The tournament-tested layout hosted the Champions Tour Ka’anapali Classic for 14 years, Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf, Canada Cup and LPGA Kemper Open, welcoming Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Jan Stephenson, Betsy King and other legends.

Complementing the Royal Ka’anapali Course is the modernized Ka’anapali Kai Course, host of Golf Channel’s “Big Break Ka’anapali.”  Extensively renovated in 2005, the 6,400-yard, par-70 layout boasts an array of strategically placed bunkers, contoured fairways and resurfaced greens.
