Surf’s Up Storrs: UConn Receives 2016 Maui Jim Maui Invitational Surfboard

A third straight weekend featured a Maui Jim Maui Invitational surfboard presentation during a college football game. Last Saturday, the UConn men’s basketball team received their custom Tournament surfboard during the Huskies’ football game against Syracuse.

Following the first quarter, the Huskies showcased their surfboard, commemorating their trip to the islands this November, to the 31,899 fans in attendance at last Saturday’s football game. Limited tickets are still available for UConn fans to see their Huskies in Maui, and further details can be found on the Tournament’s ticket page.

UConn will make its fourth appearance in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational this November, having previously appeared in Maui in 2000, 2005 and 2010. The Huskies, who won the title in their last two trips to the Tournament, are 8-1 all-time at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.

The 2016 field, which includes Georgetown, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee, UConn, Wisconsin and host Chaminade, features traditional powers and perennial championship contenders. Since 1999, the teams have combined for 15 trips to the Final Four and have won six national championships. In all, the field has combined to win 14 national titles, make 40 trips to the Final Four and earn 198 NCAA Tournament berths. Four teams appear in ESPN’s early top 25, including three teams – North Carolina, Oregon and Wisconsin, in the top 10. The Maui Jim Maui Invitational will be held Nov. 21-23, with all 12 games televised on ESPN Networks. The Huskies open the Tournament against the Cowboys at 9 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
